Next July, 2011, the 12th IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME 2011) will be held in Barcelona. I will attend to present a contribution that sums up some parts of my PhD work, titled "Rapid Infrared Multi-Spectral Systems Design using a Hyperspectral Benchmarking Framework". It describes the hyperspectral imaging system, and how we can use it to design specific faster multispectral systems. I've had the help of Arno Formella, Pilar Carrión, Esteban Vázquez and Manuel Fernández Delgado. The article will be indexed in IEEE Xplore.

Recently the seventh edition of the International Conference on Image Analysis and Recognition (ICIAR 2010) has been celebrated at Póvoa de Varzim (Portugal). This year, Esteban Vázquez and me have contributed two articles that have been presented by Dr. Fernando Martín, and that have been published in two volumes of Springer journal Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS).
The first publication is titled "Entropy of Gabor Filtering for Image Quality Assessment", where is proposed a new method for image quality assessment using entropy values after transform the images using a bank of Gabor filters.
The second contribution, titled "Digital instrumentation calibration using computer vision", summarizes the last works of project LEAME, and talks about the development of the project.

Once I am installed in the Laboratory of Applied Computer Science (LIA), I have joined the project DETEPRE (Development and implantation of new technologies and protocoles in the study of reproductive ecology in fishery).
The tasks of LIA in this project is the development of a computer vision system that works with histological ovaries cuts images from different fish species, automating processes taken into account manually until now, that can make easy the study of reproductive fishery parameters.
On the other hand, I will combine mi tasks in DETEPRE with the development of my PhD Thesis, "Image processing and hyperspectral imaging for quality control in potato industry". We will soon publish new results.
My professional activity turns around. After almost three years, my period as a researcher at the Laboratorio Oficial de Metroloxía de Galicia (LOMG) ends this December 30, 2009. It has been a time full of learning what the research profession is, and I am sure that I have experiencied a lot of very useful things for my future. The projects and publications are a strong evidence of a well done job. I wish the best things to my ex-mates.
From January 1, 2010 I will work in the Laboratory of Applied Computier Science (LIA) from the Universidade de Vigo as a researcher for the participation in R&D machine vision projects (such as DETEPRE project), and for continuing with my PhD Thesis. Thanks to Arno Formella and Pilar Carrión for believing in me for this job.
On November of 2009, I have attended the conference IECON 2009 (35th International Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society) celebrated in Porto (Portugal). My contribution has been the article "A genetic algorithm approach for feature selection in potatoes classification by computer vision", that summarizes the first activities of project VISIOCAL. The conference was thought to electronic engineering issues, by I have seen a lot of interesting ideas regarding image processing and computer vision. By the way, I have visited Porto, a fantastic city, and I have discovered IKEA in Matosinhos, where I have bought several furniture stuff. I will come back for more!
